Heads Up

I’ve been getting lots of questions about the mootools/moofx examples that I have on this site. So this is a heads up! By next week all of that information will be updated with new examples. What’s currently there is very old. I did it over a year ago. I won’t have any more moo.fx examples. It’ll all be mootools.

If there is something that want and/or need, I suggest you save it now. The files that are available for download are online only. I don’t have a copy of it on my hard drive so once it’s gone, it’s really gone.

Too Little Time

I’m really, really feeling the time crunch coupled with intense boredom and major creativity block. There’s simply not enough hours in the day. My 7:20 AM to 3:30 AM (that’s right 3:30 AM) days are starting to hurt.

I think my creativity block has a lot to with being forced into copying large amounts of elements from other sites for a straight year now. So now, I almost feel as though I can’t think on my own. I see it trickling down to other creative things that I do. I’ll spend time looking at what others have done then end up with something that looks like a mish mash of whatever it is I saw that day.

Web design wise the other thing that hurts me is knowing CSS. I always start by thinking of it in terms of what CSS can and can’t do or what I won’t do because I’m still supporting IE6.

But on the up side this thing thinks I look most like Trya Banks.

Go Speed Go

Speed Racer

I’ve been super busy redesigning at site I thought I was almost finished with, rewriting those moofx/mootools examples, texturing and maintaining a store BUT I had to make time to go watch Speed Racer. I really liked it. It was fun, pretty, had great colors and great for people of all ages.

All I remember about the old Speed Racer cartoons was that they would use the same sequence over and over again. I’ve watched the first 2 episodes of the new generation and it seems to mesh up with this new movie. Watching the new cartoon is really what made me go see the movie.

All the being said, I didn’t realize that Emile Hirsch was Johnny Truelove in Alpha Dogs. Remembering that gave me the same feeling of shock when I saw Daniel Radcliffe in December Boys (which is a really good movie and you should rent it) which was pretty much, “OMG! How can Harry Potter do that!” and “He looks weird without the wand, glasses and scar…this just isn’t normal”.

Moo Cards Inside

After what seemed like forever, my moo cards are finally here.

Moo Cards

This is my second batch of cards and I really liked how this set turned out. I think I might order the sticker book next.

I also got a new digital camera after years and years of needing a new one. I bought the Cannon SD750 but had to return it because it's not compatible with Leopard. Also, if you don't hold your hand perfectly still your pictures come out super blurry. I returned that one and got the Sony CyberShot and I love it!

Forever Has Been Such A Long Time

Welcome to the brand new Nyokiglitter. This redesign has been long overdue. Why is it that its so easy to create designs for other people but not yourself? Over the last year I must have rejected about a dozen mockups and site structures before this one and that’s not counting all the unfinished ones I scrapped.

I admired the simplicity and playfulness of sites like Rikcat Industries, 45royale, Tim Samoff and Subtraction. On first glance they all look very easy to do but I quickly learned that that was the problem. I found each of these sites at different times and I would use them one at a time for inspiration but the result always felt like a soulless carbon copy. It took a whole entire year to take the feel of these sites and make it my own and I don’t regret any a second of that time because I feel like I really learned something from every single attempt.

This is still a work in progress but I’m surprised to say that I’m pleased with the outcome/potential.

Please, have a look around and enjoy your stay. Comments are always appreciated so feel free to send messages or leave comments on the blog.
