Super Quick IE 7 Test Run

Okay, I’ll admit that I only spent about 10 minutes trying out IE7. Its not that I like it, Its just that I don’t hate it.

Apparently, IE 7 uses ClearType to render the text. LCD monitor or no LCD monitor it still makes my eyes burn. I’m thankful that they added the option to disable it. I find it very annoying to put the classic menu, the one with file, edit, view, and so on, below the address bar. It doesn’t seem to flow correctly that way. Maybe its just me.

The tabbed browsing is a definite plus and the “add new tab” button is a nice touch. The quick tabs feature is even better. Being able to switch to showcased styled view of all your current pages can be super helpful. It also has a zoom option. In my opinion, it seems pointless. I suppose if you can’t see very well, then it could be useful but other than that what would you use it for?

I noticed that IE7 handles display: block; on links that are nested in <div> tags the same as in Firefox and Safari. IE 6 didn’t. I noticed some weird stuff with absolute positioning but I haven’t spent enough time with IE 7 to go into detail about how it handles CSS. I do know that whatever yahoo wrote on their login page IE 7 sure didn’t like it.

That being said, I’ll always be a Firefox girl.

I’m dying to know if IE7 has fixed the bug with Select boxes—that they show through divs that float over them. Another side effect of (i assume) this bug is that select boxes cannot display tooltips from a title=”” attribute.

Can you confirm whether this bug is fixed or not?

Yea, the title tooltip works in IE7.
